About Conus antediluvianus

Physical Description

Is a predatory snail with a smooth shell, they can vary in size 10 to 30mm in lenght. They can easily be indentified as they have a very distinct shape about them, what looks like a small hat on top and a long but thin opening for the animal.

Age and Distribution

Thiese Conus antediluvianus shells are from the Miocene of Belgium. This animal lived approximately 15 million years ago. Other Conidae still live today in warmer marine climates. We know that Conus antediluvianus lived with many kinds sharks, fish , other gastropods and bivalves as they can be found at the same location.
